DTEK to build first solar power plant in 2017

DTEK Renewables, which is responsible for developing DTEK’s renewable energy business, is implementing a pilot project for the construction of a 10 MW solar power plant in Kherson Oblast to be completed in 2017.

“Our experts have been studying the renewable energy market for several years, looking for new and promising areas for business development. Today, the solar power generation sector has a great investment potential thanks to the advance of the technology. Therefore, we have decided to roll out a solar pilot project. Our plans for the future expansion of the project portfolio in this segment will depend on its outcome,” said DTEK Renewables CEO Victoria Syromiatova.

Lengthy land allotment procedures for the construction of power facilities made the company make a decision to purchase a ready-made solar power project. The French engineering company with extensive experience in renewable energy projects, BETEN INGENIERIE SAS, partnered with DTEK Renewables. BETEN had a suitable project for building a solar power plant in Tryfonivka village, Kherson Oblast, which has a high level of insolation and a strong potential for solar industry.

The company is going to install solar panels produced by JA Solar (China) and inverters manufactured by ABB (Italy) at Tryfonivska solar farm. The expected electricity output is 11-12 GWh a year. DTEK Renewables plans to put the farm in operation and generate the first green electricity in 2017.

“The renewable power generation plays an important role in Ukraine’s energy strategy, which is on the table today. DTEK is going to develop the RES sector as it’s our investment in the environmentally friendly and safe energy generation of the future. We are focused on solar and wind power industry,” said DTEK’s CEO Maxim Timchenko. “In 201
